Un giovane studioso di storia, il professor Norman Boyle, viene incaricato di portare a termine alcune ricerche iniziate dal suo collega Petersen. Norman deve anche scoprire perché il collega si uccise dopo aver ammazzato la sua assistente. La triste vicenda si svolse a Oak Mansion, una villa che l'uomo aveva affittato e che apparteneva al dottor Freudstein, noto per i suoi macabri esperimenti sul corpo umano.
