Un gruppo di investigatori arriva sulle rive di un lago del Maine per esaminare gli indizi relativi ad un misterioso incidente. Una paleontologa viene coinvolta nelle ricerche, in seguito al ritrovamento di un gigantesco dente che sembra di origine preistorica. Il ricco ed eccentrico professor Cyr, esperto di mitologia, convince la squadra di scienziati a catturare e studiare qualunque forma di vita venga trovata.
