Francis, Peter e Jack Whitman sono tre fratelli che si sono dati appuntamento su un treno in India, per intraprendere un bizzarro viaggio spirituale, organizzato dal fratello maggiore, che dovrebbe riunirli ed espandere le loro coscienze dopo che, dal funerale del padre, i tre si sono allontanati l'uno dall'altro. La relazione tra loro fatica però a riprendere quota, anche perché ciascuno di loro cela qualcosa agli altri. Il viaggio si rivela poi pieno di piccole sorprese e di imprevisti. E quando vengono buttati giù dal treno dal controllore indiano a causa di alcuni loro comportamenti poco ortodossi, l'avventura prenderà una nuova piega, imprevedibile e sempre più surreale. Gli obiettivi che si sono dati verranno così raggiunti in modi ben diversi da quelli che avevano progettato.
