l film racconta la storia di Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss), succube di una relazione malsana e violenta con Adrian (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), uno scienziato ricco e brillante, ma manipolatore e folle. Stanca di quel legame tossico, la donna fugge nel bel mezzo della notte. Grazie all'aiuto della sorella (Harriet Dyer), di un amico di vecchia data (Aldis Hodge) e della giovanissima figlia di quest'ultimo (Storm Reid), Cecilia riesce a far perdere completamente le sue tracce allo scienziato.
