Marcel Mangel è uno di loro, un giovane uomo, figlio di un ebreo alsaziano, deciso a condurli in Svizzera facendo credere ai tedeschi che i bambini partano per una vacanza. Mimo e attore ancora sconosciuto, Marcel corregge (letteralmente) Mangel in Marceau e sigla il suo primo gesto artistico: salvare una vita, cento vite. Ricercato due volte, come ebreo e come membro della Resistenza, Marcel Marceau sfiderà il male col silenzio.
