The Amazing Spider-Man 2: il potere di Electro è un film del 2014 diretto da Marc Webb, sequel di The Amazing Spider-Man. Dopo aver sconfitto Lizard e salvato New York, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) continua a vestire i panni di Spider-Man per difendere gli innocenti cittadini dai malintenzionati. Durante una delle sue ricognizioni, Peter salva Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), impiegato della Oscorp, che diventerà un grandissimo sostenitore di Spider-Man. Poco dopo, il ragazzo dà il bentornato all’amico d’infanzia Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) e si trova costretto ad onorare la promessa fatta al Capitano Stacy, che gli aveva chiesto di non coinvolgere la figlia Gwen (Emma Stone) nelle sue attività contro il crimine. Nonostante i profondi sentimenti che prova per lei, Peter chiude la loro relazione dopo la cerimonia dei diplomi, proprio pochi giorni prima che Gwen parta per l’Inghilterra. Nel frattempo, Harry scopre di avere una malattia genetica degenerativa che può essere curata solo con il veleno dei ragni studiati dalla Oscorp. All'interno dell'azienda, Max ha un incidente che modifica il suo DNA permettendogli di controllare l’elettricità.
Spaventato, l’uomo cerca conforto in Spider-Man che, credendolo pericoloso per la città, lo mette fuori gioco e lo fa imprigionare. Spaventato dalla prospettiva futura, Harry vuole appropriarsi del siero a tutti i costi e decide di coinvolgere Dillon, ora chiamato Electro, chiedendogli di aiutarlo in cambio della testa di Spider-Man. I due bizzarri alleati raggiungono i veleni che si rivelano inefficaci su Harry, modificando irreversibilmente il suo aspetto e le abilità. Intanto Peter scopre la verità su suo padre e decide di riappacificarsi con Gwen prima della sua partenza, non potendo negare i sentimenti che nutre per la ragazza. L’emozionante confessione, tuttavia, è interrotta dall’arrivo di Electro e di Harry che si scagliano contro Peter, bramosi di ottenere vendetta…
