Le avventure dei precedenti episodi sono ormai una memoria lontana e Shrek è diventato un vero uomo di famiglia. Tuttavia l'avventurosa vita "da orco" continua a esercitare su di lui un discreto fascino e la nostalgia per i bei tempi passati è forte. Shrek si lascia così ingannare dal nano Tremotino. Finirà col ritrovarsi, improvvisamente, in un altro "Molto molto lontano": una specie di universo parallelo, dove gli orchi vengono cacciati e Tremotino è re. L'orco verde dovrà lavorare sodo per riportare tutto alla normalità e salvare il suo mondo e tutto quelli che ama.
